Making wood-fired pizza May 21, 2023

Meadowlark Mill and Homecoming Restaurant teamed up to teach a class on making wood-fired pizza with sour dough crust. Participants learned about making sour dough starter, mixed their own dough to take home and practiced forming, rolling and topping two pizzas to enjoy at Homecoming or take home to share. Yum!

Farm & Food Tour, April 22, 2023

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than with our six eco-friendly host businesses. Our hosts welcomed some 300 visitors to Cedar Grove Cheese in Plain, Tortilleria Zepeda in Lone Rock, Savanna Institute and BrewHaHa Roasters in Spring Green and Future Fruit Farm and Meadowlark Mill in Ridgeway. What a day!

Making Maple Syrup, March 26, 2023

Maple Syrup and baby farm animals…what could be a sweeter way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Bill Meyer and Stacey Feiner opened their My Fine Homestead Farm and showed us how maple syrup is made.

Campfire Cooking on July 23, 2022

There wasn’t a hot dog or a s’more in sight at this cookout! Kyle Adams of Wander Provisions fed participants a three course meal cooked over a campfire while offering tips and tricks for successful campfire cooking. Ducks in a Row Family Farm in Arena provided a pastoral setting. We were all smarter…and fuller by the end of this event.

Flower & Wine Bar “Fun-Raiser”

Oh, boy. Buckets and buckets of fresh cut flowers! It just doesn’t get more fun than this! Delaney and Brandon Peterson of Briarwood Flowers provided a tutorial on flower arranging then offered assistance as participants made their own mason-jar bouquets. Charcuterie boxes from Wander Provisions and beverages from Homecoming Restaurant (our hosts for the day) were available for sale to benefit Savor the River Valley. Friends, spouses, parents and children all reveled in this opportunity to find their inner flower child.

Who knew salad could be so interesting…and delicious? Jay Miller of RedBarn Catering and Steven and Elisabeth of Steadfast Acres shared their expertise in all things salad-like.Participants tasted different salad greens, learned the secrets of savory salad dressings and definitely upped their salad game as they sampled four salads. The useful and tasty insights left our participants clamoring for more.

On the cusp of Mardi Gras participants were treated to a lesson in preparing chicken and sausage gumbo, fluffy rice and crispy-crusted iron-skillet cornbread with honey butter. In Jay’s signature style, it was served with heaping helpings of useful tips and tricks as well as recipes, a jar of Jay’s secret Cajun seasoning and some beautiful dark roux. Oh, cher. Lassiez les bons temps rouler!
